Track Racing and Training - Aldersley Track

Monday 19:00 to 20:00 Women/Girls only - Road Bikes
Monday 20:00 to 21:30 Adult developer session (come to this first if you have not ridden with us before. We do a safety briefing, explain all the exercises and have different ability groups. The coaches can best guide new riders to activities that will best suit after seeing them at this session.) These sessions use road bikes in the winter and track bikes from 8th April 2013.

Wednesday 19:00 to 21:00 race training  using road bikes in the winter. This is for experienced riders only and invited under 16 and under 14 youth riders with club coaches approvals. Please come to the Friday session for induction before attending the Wednesday if you have not been before. No under 12's. Wednesdays are a hard training session overseen by the club coaches. (Youth by invitation only - talk to a senior coach).

Track bike training starts  April 8th 2013. Track League from May to early September (check Wheelers and British Cycling website for dates).
Friday 18:30 to 20:00 Youth session. Aimed more at the younger rider using road bikes overseen by club coaches. This session is as much about learning the skills and fun of riding the track as well as gaining fitness and speed. You will need to be a Wheelers member to ride this session or a new rider who is not a member of a cycling club or team. New riders will get a 4 week concession pass. If you are interested in joining these fun sessions please contact Alison Cooper on 01902 753 682 or come along to have a look.

This it to encourage new riders to have a go and to join the club if you like what we do!

The Wheelers have worked hard to build up training and coaching sessions at Aldersley 3 times per week all through the year. We have invested heavily in time and money to build up the qualifications and skills of our volunteer coaching staff. We have grown the membership to over 350 and have brought many families  into riding, coaching and volunteering in the many jobs that are required in a big club. We have organising our sessions and our pricing to deliver real benefit to all our members. Membership of the Wheelers is really good value at £20 for a family, £8 for a youth and £15 for a senior member. Contact Gordon Jones Membership secretary for more details or any other Club official.

Is based at Aldersley Leisure Village and is run every
Wednesday at 7.00 p.m. from May 7th   to 3rd  September.
This asphalt track with a 22.5° banking is an ideal venue for novice and expert alike. Centred at the heart of this multi-million pound complex with excellent facilities, we offer racing for all ages and abilities.

Trophies are awarded to Seniors, Juniors, Youth, Ladies, Veterans, under 12’s & under 10’s.

The Wheelers have several club track bikes and road bikes available for members to experience these high speed thrills without any additional expense. These are available only to members. But some restrictions do apply. Please read these.

This year’s competition will be red hot! Will it be another year in which the young sprockets show the way or will the old cranks experience gain the upper hand!
If training sessions show anything it’s that the result is wide open. Many new faces have been turning to track bikes on Monday and Wednesday evenings to join the old hands.
There is racing for seniors, juniors, vets and women.
We haven’t forgotten the youngsters. Youth A, B and C can race on track bikes, whilst there are also races for freewheelers. Freewheeler races should be over by 8.30
Twelve best rides will count towards riders overall position.

Visits to Other Tracks – The Wheelers regularly hire the indoor velodrome at Manchester for club sessions, coaching and derny (motorcycle pacing) training. These sessions are always well supported and are extremely exhilarating - "One hell of a buzz" as they say! Please check the calendar and forum for details.
