Dear Wheelers,
The W-ton Wheelers Roller contest 2010:
A small but very talented group contested this
years Roller contest which saw new records set
and many riders setting 'personal bests'.
Youth riders: 250M Flying Start
& 500m Standing Start.
Seniors, Juniors, Veterans & Ladies:
500M Flying Start & 1,000m Standing
The Winner being the one with the lowest sum of
the times for each distance.
The Youth Championship saw Jess
Ansell improve by nearly 10 seconds to finish as
first girl and 4th overall.
The under 16's title was a three way contest
between a vastly improved Tim Metcalf (13
seconds faster than last year), last years
runner up Adam Lewis (faster by 3.5 seconds)
and debut rider Richard Walkerdine.
Metcalf was unfortunate to run up against two of
the faster youth riders in the country in Lewis
and Walkerdine. Adam Lewis had a second run in
the 500M leg due to an initial timing error but
was magnanimous in defeat saying that he thought
that it did not change the result.
Richard Walkerdine was on top form
setting a new club record in
this category of 34.34 seconds, beating the 2008
record held by Ed Gill by 0.68 of a second!
In the Senior Championship the
ladies title went to Lauren Creamer after a
tight battle with Kate Evans just over one
second separating the two, but Lauren had
improved by a massive 20 seconds on last years
time!
Another rider improving considerably on last
years times was Carl Hardwick, up 12.17 s on
last year. This was particularly evident in the
first 500M round, when he was just 1.24s slower
than defending Champion Tony De Leon.
Veterans champion Robin Kyte
was not happy with his first round performance
but made up for it in the longer 1,000M leg to
snatch runners up spot, relegating Carl to 3rd
overall. A brave effort by Josh Burke
rewarded him with fourth overall and
first Junior.
Tony maintained his form across both legs to
record a total time of 68.41s
which is equivalent to an average speed
of 50 mph!
Obviously there has been some benefit from the
bad weather this winter, judging by the standard
of skills and fitness shown this year!
Please see attached for details.
Many thanks to all those who helped set up, time
keep, hold up, gear check and pack it all away -
much appreciated.
