 Club Clothing Design Competition

 Introduction

As recently announced at the AGM and the Forum we are in a position with low clothing stock levels and the age of the existing design to change and refresh the club kit. We have had the existing kit design for about 7 years and we expect that the replacement will last for a similar period. The design will be subject to a competition and selection of the successful design will be done by the membership.

Design Submissions

  • There have been  17 designs submitted

  • PLEASE be aware the some designs  need a little tweaking to make them suitable for use or manufacture.

    Such as the:

    • Interface between jersey and shorts

    • Position of logo

    • Position of wording

    • Losing parts of design through sizing (e.g. small sizes will cut off designs, large sizes will have extra material).

    • Clear identification of riders in races by judges/officials. Can you tell it’s a Wheeler from front, back and both sides?

    • Likely to only use clear standard font types.

    • Wording will be “Wolverhampton Wheelers” e.g. not abbreviated or changed.

    • Finally – don’t look at the presentation – look at the design. The successful design will be professionally drawn up by the clothing supplier before it is finally approved for manufacture.

Original Design Specification

The designs submitted through the competition will be assessed against the design specification and only put forward to vote if they meet that specification.

Specification Details

  • Colours: Yellow, black and white. We are not specifying the type of yellow – the kit in the fifties was a similar colour the Wolves “old gold”, the current one is a light yellow – all these yellow’s will be acceptable.

  • The wheelers WWCC logo must be used and visible. There is potential to manipulate it if that makes your design work – we can provide a master file of the logo if required.
  • Club Name – “Wolverhampton Wheelers” must be visible to spectators and other racers when in a riding position. The choice of font is up to you but it must be a standard font and be legible.
  • Garments: The design is required for short and long sleeved jersey’s and shorts because that is what we will definitely stock. If you are able to add other garments that’s fine but we may only get them to specific order (i.e. they are likely to be more expensive than the stocked items – e.g. gilets, skin suits, tights, arm warmers etc.). Tops are planned to have full zip with 3 pockets for adults (we will discuss pockets for children’s tops with the manufacturer to decide what is best). Shorts will be bib shorts.
  • Web address – this is now optional – it’s a long address and you only need to key Wolverhampton Wheelers into a search engine to get the site. Recommended only to use the web address if the design needs it.
  • Sizing: Please see the attached graphics for the existing kit for guidance - it is possible for suppliers to cut many sizes from the one design, therefore avoid features at the bottom or side seams of the design, they would only be seen on the biggest sizes and would be progressively cut off as the size got smaller. It is likely that we will require two templates from the supplier – one for children’s sizes and one for adults – one design should be sufficient for both. We may just do children’s tops and use plain black shorts to keep costs and stocking down (and they grow so quickly!)
  • Club Image: Do think of what you see when the riders is on the bike – look at pictures of club riders racing. Our yellow, black and white has been recognised across Europe and is well known in the UK – we would like to build on that recognition and history if possible.
  • Format: we will attempt to accept designs in any format to encourage everyone to take part.
  • It is acceptable to submit a design early and ask if it meets the spec – refining the design to meet the specification and submitting again.
  • You can submit as many designs as you wish.
