Chairman's July Report

I have a few items to announce after another double virtual monthly meeting yesterday evening that was well attended, informative and amusing with a pleasing atmosphere.

Hopefully the next meeting, we will be together after such a long time on virtual meetings. Next meeting we must have coffee, tea and cakes after being 16 months apart.

The membership has increased again as more join and our finances available are steadily returning above the threshold that we are comfortable with.

Shaun also confirmed new coaches are on track with BC training courses.

We applied for a Covid compliant cash grant, which has now been approved this morning subject to a final visit, so well done to Paul completing the paperwork and everyone making sure we are looking after everyone at the stadium.

Over the last month I have either met or spoken to Hugh Porter MBE, Andrew Tennant as well as Stuart Dangerfield in Australia. All three are life members and all World, or National Champions with far too many achievements to mention just now. With the Commonwealth games due in 2022 and the Cycling TT’s being held in Wolverhampton, I have asked all to be Ambassadors for Wolverhampton Wheelers as we head towards the games. Not many clubs can boast such a range of talent and knowledge at our disposal and particularly Hugh being BBC cycling commentator for 3 decades. I have asked all three to represent us if the media comes knocking next year and all have agreed as we are their actual spiritual home. This will help promote the club as well as themselves so we collectively promote cycling and the city of Wolverhampton. Stuart will be flying the flag in Australia for us.

Lucy, Matt along with Robin and Chris are organising through BC’s summer of cycling 4 events planned for August at the stadium and on the road, which includes the 100 in 8, a family ride and 2 ladies events all open to attract new people into cycling. More will be announced soon, so keep an eye out and share any announcements through social media.

Also look out for a brighter change to the website home page over the next few days, that Nicola and Simon have worked on. It may be so subtle you might not even notice the improvement.

A note on the clothing. We are down to the last 25 pieces (various items/sizes ) of the old kit, mostly women’s if anyone would still like to purchase at reduced prices that can be used as a spare or for training/social riding. The new kit continues to sell well with an order on its way, but due to the summer lockdown in Italy we can’t place further orders until the end of August when Ros will reopen the portal. A new small batch available in children’s sizes only are arriving soon, so see Natalie, Ros or Sally down at the track on Fridays if your children wish to try for size or purchase.

Finally, last but not least, keep your eye out for details on the ‘Ride for Joe’ event including the 21 lap event at the stadium, so two events in memory of our Joe.

Best wishes to everyone and a big welcome to the new members as well as those who aren’t members but ride with us.

Gary Burke.

Chairman.
